5. The Great Correction

Dow1

The right side of the graph shows the Dow "behaving badly" with respect to the optimistic green line. In these times, value is being sought wherever it lies.

For example, some of the acquirers, who snapped up failed dot bombs after the bust, are now looking to sell those web-based patents. Same goes for individuals who have held onto theirs. For the failed concerns, liquidators are combing their patents, seeking value.

The Great Correction is also clarifying the patent market. Some patent businesses will survive these times; others will fail.

As of early 2009, the core factor distinguishing success from failure in this industry was already an "open secret".
